Oh Canada. They stood on guard for us.
The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame announced its 2015 inductees today. The late Dr. John McCrae, a true Canadian Hero, together with the following five other great Canadians will become laureates in Winnipeg, Manitoba in April next year.
How fitting it is that in the centennial year of the beginning of the First World War Dr. McCrae is to be honoured in this way. Although Lieutenant Colonel McCrae died in January 1918, before the end of the war, his memory lives on in the poem he wrote on the battle field in May 1915. The words of In Flanders Fields have become embedded in both the conscience and the anthology of mankind, and the image of the poppy, described so poignantly in the poem, has become a universal sign and symbol for Remembrance.
In honour of today’s announcement here is the poem In Flanders Fields for those who may be reading it for the first time and which I had posted previously in June: Row on Row .

…or the story of this week’s Monday Bouquet.

These Seeds from the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Sante Fe New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment where we visited this Spring, have given us a glorious display on our kitchen deck for the past several weeks, greeting us each day and adding New Mexican enchantment to our morning coffee. I like to think that Georgia O’Keeffe would have approved.

Now it’s your turn to be enchanted…
stretching…
strolling…
picnicking
twirling…
hurling…
grilling…
chilling…
jumping for joy…
or simply just sitting and watching the sunset…
…There is nowhere better than to be on Kitsilano Beach on a perfect Vancouver evening.
Summer lovin’ continues with last weekend’s Symphony of Fire over English Bay, Vancouver.
Enjoy the Minuet from Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks played by Jordi Savall & Le Concert Des Nations as you watch the show.

“Lets meet in the Departure Hall of Waterloo Station at 11:15. I’ll be waiting on the steps by the escalator wearing a yellow hoodie. You can’t miss me, and make sure you’re not being followed. If you haven’t arrived by 11:30 I’ll assume that you have been and will see you there. Remember to bring the tickets and your passport. Not long now!”
to be continued…

If you are fans of So You Think You Can Dance as we are, you will have seen the audition by Deise Mendonca and Mauricio Vera that simply took ones breath away. These few photos that I took during last week’s broadcast demonstrate that the question SYTYCD really does not apply to these two wonderful artists whose love for each other and for dance leaps from the screen.
They danced Le grand pas de deux from Act II of Le Corsaire, music by Riccardo Drigo, and played here by The Evergreen Symphony Orchestra.
Simply Sublime

A year ago today, June 4th 2013, we set off on our Peruvian adventure trekking to Machu Picchu. My post that day, Machu Picchu -11, featured a gallery of the gorgeous giant poppies that had only recently opened in our patio garden. Of course by the time we returned many of the blooms were long gone but as poppies do they returned again this year with a display just as beautiful as last year’s. It seemed only fitting to celebrate today’s one year anniversary of our never to be forgotten trip with a gallery of this year’s blooms, the first of which I recently posted.
