I think you know me well enough by now to know where my thoughts are today. Our memorable visit to family in Las Vegas in April 2015 included a visit to the magnificent Red Rock Canyon only a forty minute drive from Downtown and which I featured on Day 115 of my 365 day challenge that year. On returning home it led to a painting of the Canyon featured on Day 134 together with its accompanying colorful palette. Today’s image is that same palette in monochrome, a way for me to express without words my feelings of sorrow, heartache and sympathy for all those lost and suffering from the tragic events that have taken place in a city that is always so full of life, color and excitement.
Finale Ligure reflection matted and framed.
The window is from the Youth Hostel in Finale Ligure, Castello Vuillerman, where we stayed in 1999. We’ll never forget climbing the more than three hundred steps with packs on our backs to the Castello where the views of the city were well worth the climb.
The first variation in ink and water-colour repurposed from Studio 365:Day 145…

Layered I 20.9.17
In response to this week’s Photo Challenge: Layered in which Ben asked us to “explore the interplay of texture and depth” and share “a layered image of your own,” it was out to the studio and a serendipitous exploration of the merging of layers of acrylic colours, the results of which couldn’t have been more pleasing. I hope you agree.

Deltaport variation 2.9.15, matted and framed.
Returning from Vancouver Island one stormy August evening in 2015 led to this painting of the cranes of Deltaport against a fiery night sky at sunset and painted two years ago today.
With this post I am thinking of all the recent and ongoing natural disasters around the world this summer, the catastrophic flooding in Texas and South Asia and the wild fires here in British Columbia, all of which have led to so many lost homes and treasured possessions and to too many lost lives for whom today’s post is dedicated together with the volunteers and neighbours helping neighbours who are showing the best of humanity in these troubled times.
