From the beauty of Kits Beach yesterday to our last walk of the year in the magic of the Pacific Spirit Park today that was more magical than ever.
Wishing everyone a very Happy and Healthy New Year, and a special New Years Eve thank you to all of our health care heroes who have been there for us every day of 2021.
Inspired in the studio this afternoon by the sights and sounds of the Pacific Spirit Park from this morning’s walk: the music of the wind swaying the trees above and the rustling of myriads of falling leaves in the rain alighting on the trails and woodland floor below.
I couldn’t help but be inspired by the privilege of experiencing such precious moments as these.

National Physicians Day
Four special moments from the Pacific Spirit Park, Vancouver today on our National Physicians Day here in Canada, a day for me to say thank you to all of my amazing colleagues who have worked so hard this past difficult year together with all of our frontline heroes. I am in awe of them all.

Canada Remembers
The sun broke through on our walk this morning in the Pacific Spirit Park illuminating these beautiful young maple leaves as we remember Sub.Lt. Abbigail Cowbrough and her five co-Canadian Armed Forces crew members, Sub-Lieutenant Matthew Pyke, Master Corporal Matthew Cousins, Captain Maxime Miron-Morin, Captain Kevin Hagen and Captain Brenden Ian MacDonald, all lost when their helicopter came down in the Ionian sea a year ago today.
Only eleven days previously Sub.Lt. Cowborough had been playing Amazing Graze on the deck of their ship HMCS Fredericton to honor all those murdered in the mass shooting in her home Province of Nova Scotia.

Lynn Valley Strong
Moments of peace, tranquillity and joy from the Pacific Spirit Park last week to ease our troubled souls. Every day brings news of unimaginable horror, from young children and protesters murdered by troops in Myanmar, school children bombed in their schools in Syria, boys as young as nine beheaded in Mozambique, mass murder in Atlanta, Georgia and Boulder, Colorado; and now here at home terror in a library in North Vancouver with one person killed and six injured.
Today our thoughts are with the families of all those affected and with the community of Lynn Valley, especially the children who witnessed it all on what should have been a happy Saturday afternoon in their local library, and wishing those who have been injured a full recovery. 🇨🇦

If Trees Could Speak
Thank you to Sara, Lani, Meghan and Lori from Metro Vancouver Regional Parks for creating such a memorable walk in the woods today. Their words, together with those of Nakita Gill, honoring the magnificent trees of our glorious Pacific Spirit Park are truly inspiring and uplifting.
They have also created a Raccoon Ramble for children for the next two weekends. How lucky we are to have their wonderful spirits in our midst. Our heartfelt thanks to them all.
And of course our thoughts today have been with all those grieving their loved ones murdered in Atlanta. The peace and tranquillity we are fortunate enough to enjoy here are a poignant counterpoint to all those suffering racial hatred and violence everywhere. Enough. We are better thank this.
