Covid-19

endless possibilities

How could I not respond to my wonderful friend Tina from Travels and Trifles who is hosting this week’s Lens-Artists Challenge: Creativity in the time of Covid with her as always inspiring images and words.

A few weeks ago I was intrigued by my beautiful granddaughter’s Disney Read and Glow drawing tablet so my lovely daughter gave me a present of one for myself. Here are a few of my “creations” some of which I have already blogged about. In these challenging times it has been fun to explore the endless possibilities that this brilliant little children’s drawing tool provides.

Thanks Tina for always inspiring us with your Travels and Trifles.

and today even more color

The Nitobe Memorial Garden on the University of British Columbia campus sparkled in the summer sunshine today, an oasis of calm and beauty for our troubled times.

sublime Yuja

What a treat today enjoying the sublime Yuja Wang whose breathtaking virtuosity was on full display on the final day of Virtual Verbier Festival, thanks to Medici TV. Seeing and hearing her play is such a privilege and in these troubled times her inspirational artistry uplifts us all.

Thank you Yuja.

The Last 100 Days

Our world has changed so much over the past three months. This mini retrospective of some of my drawings and paintings, attempting to reflect the tumultuous times we have been living through, show moments of gratitude, heroism, loss, remembrance, inspiration, and protest. Let us hope that at the end of the next 100 days we can all be looking forward to the change that is so desperately needed, as we remember John Lewis and Rev. CT Vivian, two icons of the Civil Rights movement who died on 17th July.

Five years ago today I posted a similar retrospective of the then previous 100 days in the studio. My paintings reflected a very different world for me as you will see if you visit Studio 365: Day 200

almost home

Almost home after wonderful family time away and already looking forward to our next return visit. Can’t help but reflect on how lucky we are to have the health care leadership we have here in British Columbia that has made it possible, together with all those health care heroes that have been on the frontline for us all throughout. My heartfelt thanks to them all.🇨🇦

five long months

Oh the joy! After five long months we were able to travel to see our daughter and granddaughter again and enjoy the longest hugs that we have been dreaming about for so long. Tomorrow our beautiful granddaughter will be 5 and we are so happy that we will be able to celebrate her special day with her.

the greenhouse quartet

The Green House Quartet

The Barcelona Opera House reopened yesterday with a concert by the UceLi Quartet to the hall filled with potted plants on each seat. The plants will be given to local health care workers to say thank you for all their efforts throughout the pandemic. A wonderfully inspiring story in which the word greenhouse was never more meaningful.

This second image imagines the quartet playing in one of my Pacific Spirit Park paintings.
