Olympic Moments XVI – 2.19.22

Congratulations to Ivanie Blondin on her silver medal in the women’s mass start speedskating final, and to all of our Canadian Olympians not only in the women’s and men’s bobsleigh events today but from the past 16 inspiring days.

10.61

There have been so many iconic Olympic moments over the years, and they have all been joined today by Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah after her stunning Gold Medal win in the women’s 100 meters as she realizes she has broken Florence Griffith Joyner’s 33 year old record by 0.01 seconds with a new Olympic record of 10.61.

With the silver and bronze medals won by her teammates Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Sherika Jackson this year’s new Olympic motto could not be more meaningful:

Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together.

Congratulations to Nancy, Nazde and the whole University of British Columbia student production team, together with all of the inspiring performers and artists, who last night gave us a never-to-be-forgotten virtual 27th Spring Gala that was simply an absolute triumph. Heartfelt thanks and bravos to everyone who worked so hard to make this year’s Gala a reality. 👏👏👏

God speed

On the occasion of the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris, with the inspiring and moving words of both the 46th President and the first youth poet laureate of America, Amanda Gorman, still resonating in my mind:

Congratulations America. Welcome back.

I hope you know how much you’ve been missed.

Happily all’s well with the world today.

Good luck and God speed.

What a treat today enjoying the sublime Yuja Wang whose breathtaking virtuosity was on full display on the final day of Virtual Verbier Festival, thanks to Medici TV. Seeing and hearing her play is such a privilege and in these troubled times her inspirational artistry uplifts us all.

Thank you Yuja.
