Victory Square, Vancouver 18.11.15

One week ago today this square was filled with many thousands attending the 95th Annual Remembrance Day Service…

Two days later war came again to the streets of Paris and sadly another date must now be added to an ever-growing list of days of remembrance:

  • September 11, 2001 – New York
  • July 7, 2005 – London
  • November 26, 2008 – Mumbai
  • September 21, 2013 – Nairobi
  • January 7, 2015 – Paris
  • October 31, 2015 – Sinai
  • November 12, 2015 – Beirut
  • November 13, 2015 – Paris

…and too many more.

We will remember…We must Remember

Illumination 10.11.15

“Now for something completely different” with this somewhat ornate illuminated initial and a particularly ornate roccoco frame. The initial, which measures 10″x8″, is a copy I made today from an illuminated manuscript that resides in the British Museum, and the frame measuring 45″x39″ – well that resides in the studio and I have yet to find use for it. However, with the magic of Photoshop Elements this seems to work I think, don’t you?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Treat 2

With one more day to go for this week’s Photo Challenge, how could I not post these images from our morning walk along Kitsilano Beach in the early November sunshine two days ago.

What a treat!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Treat

Halloween iv

What could be a more “marvellous treat” than walking along Spanish Banks on a perfect October morning in Vancouver and being greeted by a pile of perfect pumpkins set against the beauty of Howe Sound looking towards Lighthouse Park, Bowen Island and the distant mountains that in a week or two will be covered in snow.

After leaving the beach we set off along the Admiralty Trail in the Pacific Spirit Regional Park where the autumnal colours were simply mesmerizing as you will have seen in my post to the Weekly Photo Challenge: Boundaries.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Halloween

Weekly Photo Challenge: (Extra)ordinary

Extraordinary ib

On our visit this morning to the Sunday market in the medieval French village of Issigiac this abandoned pump in a square off the beaten track seemed to mirror Cheri’s lone sink on Alcatraz in its (extra)ordinariness. I too could sense the passage of time and wondered about the many stories of all those who had stood beneath that tree and pumped their water in the early morning October air.

Day 285

Kitsilano Beach, Vancouver 11.10.15, a happy place to restore the spirit at any time of year…

Day 285 ii

…as someone showed yesterday leaving this gilded frame surrounding a view of Stanley Park.

Wishing everyone a Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Monday.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Boundaries

Yesterday, on another inspiring early morning walk along the Admiralty Trail on the boundary of the Pacific Spirit Regional Park, the sunlight filtering through the high overhanging branches created a canopy of colour that at times simply took our breath away.

We stepped aside for the joggers and then met the two little Papillon sisters Cricket and Bella, aged six and seven, who kindly pawsed and posed for me.

Autumn in all its glory, once again, I hope you agree.
