Month: June 2020

dad

As I remember my wonderful dad seen here courting my mum in 1935 and on his retirement in 1969, and having received the most loving father’s day wishes today from my amazing children whom I love so much, I wish all the dads and granddads out there the Happiest of Father’s Days.

Inspired by the words of President Obama and in support of those marching for Equality, Justice and Freedom in New York and across America today, including here in Vancouver.

“Juneteenth is a time to recommit ourselves to the work that remains undone. We remember that even in the darkest hours, there’s cause to hope for tomorrow’s light.” Barack Obama, 2016.

farewell to a hero

On a day when the Pacific Spirit Park sparkled in its beauty at every turn I would like to remember my amazing brother-in-law, a veteran, who left us today surrounded by his wonderful family after 98 years of a life that inspired all of us who knew him. We will miss him but his spirit will never leave us.

6 to 3

The Supreme Court of the United States on the right side of history today…almost. It should have been 9 to 0. Their landmark decision rules that federal law prohibits employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

“tomorrow the sun will shine again”

These words were spoken by Francesca Hayward before her unforgettable performance with her partner Cesar Corrales at The Royal Opera House described in yesterday’s post. Their presence filled the studio today as I was moved once again by their artistry, and the sun did shine.

be moved too

After the sublime performance at the Royal Opera House today of the world premier of a new work choreographed by Wayne McGregor to Strauss’ Morgan danced by Francesca Hayward and Cesar Corrales, the company all took a knee in support of Black Lives Matter; a powerful and moving moment. Watch it on YouTube for the next 14 days and be moved too.
