down to the seas again

“I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by…”

from Sea Fever by John Masefield 1913

A revisit to this day last year on Day 9 of my journey through
Tony Smibert’s Lessons from the Great Masters,
another inspiring book of his.

  1. I love this picture, really I do …. but the Masefield immediately brought to mind Spike Milligan’s version:

    I must go down to the sea again,
    to the lonely sea and the sky;
    I left my shoes and socks there –
    I wonder if they’re dry?

    1. LOL – love this but felt I couldn’t use it. (Boris Johnson should have thought the same before he published his limerick in the Spectator.) Ahhh the Goon Show – distant happy memories 🙂

      1. Boris certainly should have thought twice. About a number of things. Buy hey – he’s just been made Foreign Secretary (what?) I fear we need The Goons and TWTWTW and probably Monty Python for good measure more than ever!!

      2. LOL, even David Cameron referred to the Black Knight in the Commons speaking to the Labour leader. I wonder if Teresa May will now follow up with a new Ministry of Silly Walks 🙂
