Fall glorious Fall on the Ile d’Orleans

After the breathtaking Fall colours in Québec City yesterday our visit to the Ile d’Orlean today was just as spectacular with our first stop at the Montmorency Falls in the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, before crossing the bridge to the Island where we picked apples, enjoyed the best strawberries and savoured every glorious colour-filled moment.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my 1000th post than with these images from our memorable visit today to this beautiful Ile d’Orleans here in the Province of Québec.

Home to Vancouver and the west coast tomorrow.

We couldn’t ask for a more perfect Fall afternoon here in one of Canada’s most beautiful cities, Québec City, where we have arrived for a short three day visit. I have no doubt the Ile d’Orléans where we will be spending the day tomorrow will be just as spectacular.

From our memorable trip to South West France last October one more image to add to those that I posted last December on Day 335 of Studio 365 where you can read about this spectacular landscape architectural marvel, the largest reflection pool in the world and listed as a contemporary World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

When you arrive in Venice, who wants to leave.
I think I’ll stick around for a while.

Return to Venice

It’s the beginning of a new month so who wouldn’t want to return to Venice.
Here is the view from the bell tower of San Giorgio Maggiore.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Narrow

Just for a few minutes each day a narrow shaft of sunlight illuminates the glorious natural beauty of Upper Antelope Canyon, Arizona. It will take your breath away.
It certainly took mine.

Discover Challenge: Memory

For this week’s Discover Challenge Krista asks us to “get inspired by illustrated journalling”.

From time to time in my blog I have dipped into one of my prize possessions, an illustrated journal I kept throughout our travels in Italy and Greece during 1999 and 2000.

Journal

I thought for the challenge I would use four of its pages as examples of pen, ink and water-colour notations that I made each evening to record certain moments and scenes that I had found particularly memorable that day:

Final Ligure

The laundry hanging out of the window of the youth hostel at Castello Wuillerman where we stayed in Finale Ligure…

Padua i

Some of Giotto’s exquisite fresco figures in the magnificent Scrovegni Chapel in Padua…

Journal 9.VII

The intricate patterns of the mosaic floors of Saint Mark’s Basilica in Venice, which you may remember inspired a painting on Day 163 last year…

Santorini

The birds and flowers on the entrance ticket for the Akrotiri Archeological Museum on the Isle of Santorini…

If you are interested in seeing other postings from the journal just search “journal” in the search box at the foot of the page.

Spanish Banks and the Vancouver Skyline 29.12.15

Back from a wonderful Xmas with family in Los Angeles to enjoy Vancouver at its best today, and this first for me, a rider and his horse on Spanish Banks against the shimmering skyline of the city.

Only two more days to go and just two more months to look back on.

November: After attending the 91st Annual Remembrance Day Service in Victory Square, Vancouver on November 11th…

Day 314

…two days later another day of horror and tragedy in Paris was added to an ever-growing list of days to remember, and Je suis Charlie became Je suis Paris

Day 318 ii

After our never-to-be-forgotten visit to La Belle France in October with dear friends studio-time painting the beautiful places we visited took on a new meaning during November and became a way of showing solidarity with the people of France who made our visit so memorable. This slideshow brings together those paintings, some of which will be familiar to you after yesterdays photos of all the places we visited. I have also included a couple from our visit to London where we began our journey.

One final painting from the end of the month for Day 330 and another favourite for obvious reasons, my father’s tools some of which I had been using to create my representations of the Cave of Lascaux.
