spring forward fall back

20.4.16 i

Today was a beautiful Spring day for a walk along one of our favourite city trails here in Vancouver,  the Admiralty Trail in the Pacific Spirit Park.  How different were the colours today, a wonderful array of greens and umbers, compared to the rich reds and yellows of the Fall, which you will have seen last October in my post for the  Weekly Photo Challenge: Boundaries. Take a moment to look back yourselves and compare; I think you’ll find it’s worth it.

The opening photo I took today of the ferns reflected in a small pool is one of my favourites for a long time and looks to me like a painting in the making.  Stay tuned.

Kits Perfect

Kits Perfect

Last night’s sunset over English Bay was another one of those special moments that makes Kitsilano Beach such a special place to be on a warm spring evening here in Vancouver. You may recall a not too dissimilar image from August 2014 for the Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette.

Yesterday’s landscape for the Weekly Photo Challenge was of English Bay viewed from Burrard Bridge here in Vancouver. Today the landscape is from our afternoon walk along Kitsilano Beach, with people strolling or playing beach volley ball in the warm afternoon sunshine.  This glorious beach is a favourite subject of mine as you know and the original Beauty and the Beach was posted in August 2014 with several photos featuring all the activities you could expect to find on a warm summer’s eve.  Hard to believe that it is only the beginning of Spring as it felt like a summer’s day today.

English Bay

Walking across Burrard Bridge in Vancouver this morning and looking out to English Bay the view was more spectacular than ever. I paused in the middle of the span and took this shot using the panorama setting on my iPhone 6S. It was only later that I checked this week’s Photo Challenge from Cheri in which she has invited us to “share a photo of a landscape: a wide establishing shot of a scene in nature or an urban setting.” I think this will do don’t you? 🙂

If you would like to see more pictures of this beautiful Art Deco Bridge that was opened in 1932 check out my post a bridge for all from November 2014, which I posted at that time for the third week of Cheri’s Photography 101.

Happy first day of April.

If you go down to the woods today…

Walking in the woods today the music and words of Teddy Bear’s Picnic immediately came to my mind as I tramped in muddy boots through the trees. I hadn’t thought about the song for many years but it’s one that is so familiar to me, and I suspect to many of your reading this, and yet I knew nothing about its origins. Thanks to Wikipedia I discovered the melody was written by the American composer John Walter Bratton in 1907, and the lyrics were added by the Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy in 1932. The first vocal recording was by Henry Hall and his orchestra in 1932. Enjoy his classic recording as you “go down to the woods” with me, although “you better go in disguise.”

Studio 365: Day 295

This morning we said farewell to Bergerac after a week filled with great memories of this beautiful region of France, with special thanks to Laurence and Pascal.

This afternoon we were greeted by the glorious Surrey countryside as we return to England for the final few days of our travels with dearest friends.

Studio 365: Day 290

Today has been a day of reflection in which I saw a painting at every sparkling moment:

Our last stop at the Cave of Lascaux deserves a post of its own when I return home.
It was definitely the highlight of the day.

Autumn colors continue to dazzle in the Dordogne with visits today to Sarlat, Domme, La-Roque Gageac, Les Jardins de Marqueyssac and Beynac. Here are just a few photos from a spectacular day, with more to come when we return home.

Sea to Sky

Returning to Vancouver from Whistler today along the Sea to Sky Highway a brief pause at Porteau Cove Provincial Park once again reveals Super Natural British Columbia in all its glory and also shows why the highway is so perfectly named.
