First the good news as reported in a new court filing by Julia Ainsley and Jacob Soboroff, author of “Separated” a book that should be read by all: the parents of 105 of the children separated at the border by the previous criminal administration have been found. Unfortunately, the filing goes on to report that the parents of 506 of the remaining children have yet to be reached; 322 of them are being looked for in their countries of origin; 168 are attempted to being located in the United States; for the remaining 16 there no contact numbers available.
In the words of Winston Churchill, “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
P.S. My apologies to those of you looking for my promised story behind the leaf drawings, this has taken on a life of its own and has now become a work in progress. Stay tuned.
Families Belong Together
666+80…entering the home stretch, with the hope that home is coming soon for the children so cruelly separated from their parents at the US border by the criminal administration that in three days will be relegated to the dustbin of history.
How reassuring to learn from the interview between Jacob Soboroff and Alicia Menendez on MSNBC in which Ron Klain the Chief of Staff to President-elect Biden states that in the first 10 days he will…
“…fulfill his promises to restore dignity to our immigration system and our border policies, and start the difficult but critical work of reuniting families separated at the border.”
Watch the interview at @jacobsoboroff and make sure to read his book “Separated.”
666 Day XLI
The leaves are now home where they will be loved, and be a reminder every day, not that I need one, of the precious children that they represent who sadly have no home and no parents to love and protect them. With the dedication and commitment however of all those working so hard to reunite the families we can only hope that the day will come when that love and protection will be possible once again.
On Day XXXIX of my 666 journey the final leaf has been drawn but sadly for the separated children and their families their journey is far from over. They have been in my thoughts each day and will continue to be until all the children have been united with their parents.
I would like to thank those of you who have been following my leaf journey since the first day and those of you who joined along the way. Knowing you feel as I do has been a great support and encouragement.
I would also like to thank Jacob Soboroff today for his book “Separated: Inside an American Tragedy”, which should be read by everyone. His telling the story of the children is truly heartbreaking. Take a look at his post on Instagram today Jacob Soboroff where he writes about the book and supporting local booksellers during the pandemic.
Thank you also to Lee Gelernt and the ACLU, and The Physicians for Human Rights for their dedicated advocacy for the children and their families seeking to reunite them and find justice so that those responsible can be held accountable.
‘666: a graphite journey” is dedicated to the children.
Keep them in your thoughts.
