colour harmony

“In the chart of exercises…the sketches are all quite tiny – deliberately so – because the idea is to experiment quickly, identify techniques, and move on.”

Tony Smibert on exercise in Colour Harmonies in Turner’s Apprentice.

  1. How your post resonates in perceived colour prejudice. On a visit to London I’d come across a display of Turner’s sketching and how his colour palette changed over his career in the Tate Britain, so was intrigued by your reference to his painting techniques. At the time I’d wanted to know more about the origin of cobalt blue.
International press has reported the visual impact of that video and the police brutality was so shocking! Breaking down prejudice and cruelty takes persistent courage.
