The Holocaust Memorial, Berlin.
Conventional wisdom would think that we might learn something from the past but today, Holocaust Memorial Day, the President of the United States signed an executive order that will stem the flow of refugees into his country, refugees fleeing a modern day holocaust.
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” we read on the Statue of Liberty, “the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” Lets hope that the lamp will be lifted again very soon as we pause to remember the millions lost and “tempest-tossed” both yesterday and today.
wish I could be there to add my support.

Thanks Debi. It’s all very hard to believe. We seem to be reentering the dark ages.

First, a truly beautiful photograph Andrew – love your use of B:&W for this one. Second, yes the timing of the executive order and Holocaust Remembrance are a very sad reminder of what happens when the world shuts its doors to those in need. Take heart though, the order has been challenged by our judicial system and may not take effect after all. If it DOES indeed go through hopefully it will be lifted after the 90-day hiatus. Perhaps it will actually spur some in our government to do a better job of figuring out a way to tell the bad guys from their victims around the world. We can hope.
