International Women’s Day

International Womens Day

On this International Women’s Day my thoughts are of the women and children of Ukraine and of the mother and her two children killed by Russian mortar fire in Irpin and of the photojournalist Lynsey Addario who bravely risked her life to record this crime for all the world to see, and who with so many other brave women journalists with their male colleagues are ensuring the documentation of the history of these dark times. Together with the brave Ukrainian women who are fighting for their country they are all true heroes on this International Women’s Day of 2022. 💙💛

will everything be OK?

Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing women in my life who inspire me each and every day at home and at work, together with all of our healthcare heroes. Here are some of the women who inspire us all both as leaders and protesters and who sadly in the process too often pay the ultimate price. This year the theme for today is “Choose to Challenge,” which is why I am dedicating this post to the memory of Kyal Sin, who “chose to challenge” but was murdered five days ago at the age of 19 by the Myanmar Police. “Everything will be OK” she believed, but “Will it be?” is the question for our times.

Wish: Planet 50:50

Wishing the amazing women in my life a happy International Women’s Day.

The title of the post is taken from the UN Women’s website, which states the theme for International Women’s Day this year focuses on “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030”. I encourage you to read their full statement here.

As I looked with great pride and much love at my wife, daughter and granddaughter today there is so much to wish for. The UN Women’s statement is a good place to start.
