leaves of love

Five moments of the day on the trails in the Pacific Spirit Park where, no surprise, the leaves have a new meaning for us with two that caught our eyes today.

six of the best

The Pacific Spirit Park lifts our spirits every day as I think those of you who follow the Changing Palette know only too well. Enjoy these “six of the best” from the past week as the weekend begins.

home sweet home

666 Day XLI

The leaves are now home where they will be loved, and be a reminder every day, not that I need one, of the precious children that they represent who sadly have no home and no parents to love and protect them. With the dedication and commitment however of all those working so hard to reunite the families we can only hope that the day will come when that love and protection will be possible once again.

666 for the children

On Day XXXIX of my 666 journey the final leaf has been drawn but sadly for the separated children and their families their journey is far from over. They have been in my thoughts each day and will continue to be until all the children have been united with their parents.

I would like to thank those of you who have been following my leaf journey since the first day and those of you who joined along the way. Knowing you feel as I do has been a great support and encouragement.

I would also like to thank Jacob Soboroff today for his book “Separated: Inside an American Tragedy”, which should be read by everyone. His telling the story of the children is truly heartbreaking. Take a look at his post on Instagram today Jacob Soboroff where he writes about the book and supporting local booksellers during the pandemic.

Thank you also to Lee Gelernt and the ACLU, and The Physicians for Human Rights for their dedicated advocacy for the children and their families seeking to reunite them and find justice so that those responsible can be held accountable.

‘666: a graphite journey” is dedicated to the children.

Keep them in your thoughts.

666 – the final 15

666 – Day XXXVIII
The final fifteen together with their neighbours.

The final fifteen leaves in position at 7:30 this morning.

Tomorrow, look for the completed piece and a few final words of appreciation.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy American Thanksgiving to all my wonderful family and friends south of the border. As on our own Canadian Thanksgiving last month today is a moment to be thankful not only for the love of family and friends but for all those heroes working tirelessly on the frontline saving lives. With the coming new leadership that path in the woods will surely lead to happier, healthier and more hopeful days ahead but my thoughts today are of course on the six hundred and sixty six children and their families for whom this Thanksgiving Day is very much the opposite of happy. Keep them in your thoughts today too.

666 – a graphite journey of tears

Today on day thirty of my graphite journey of tears I am taking a moment to reflect on the six hundred and sixty six children separated from their parents and who are represented by my drawings of leaves from the Pacific Spirit Park in Vancouver; children who are as beautiful and unique as each one of these leaves is; children who have been tortured by a policy of state sanctioned child abuse by the Government of the United States; children for whom the locations of their parents remain unknown; children who are suffering unimaginable mental anguish for which we recently learnt they were being denied mental health care services by that same soulless government; children suffering from crimes that will be remembered as some of the most heinous of the 21st century, crimes that are reminiscent of those of Nazi Germany in which children were also separated from their parents and suffered similarly unimaginable mental and physical agony that was only short-lived for many because they were gassed.

Today we thank those who are working every day to reunite the children with their parents and seeking justice to ensure the criminals responsible for this despicable crime will be held accountable, as they must and will be with the help of a new administration.

Thank you for reading.

My journey of tears for the children will continue tomorrow.
