Sand Dunes and Morro Rock 10.7.15
This watercolour exercise was inspired by ms.diplomacy’s photo entitled Morro Rock View, which she posted on July 8th. I loved its minimalism, complementary colors, shapes and spaces. Many thanks ms.d 🙂

Lessons from the Great Masters Day 8, part 1 – 8.7.15
Today’s lesson was entitled Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot: balance of light and dark elements. The image started simply with a light wash followed by dark solid shapes leaving sky-holes within the foliage and painting a single tree-trunk within the reserved white of the sky. Highlights were created scraping the paint away with a sharp knife. Look for the color exercise tomorrow.

Arizona Revisited I 6.7.15
Arizona Revisited II 6.7.15
Definitely a quantum leap with today’s exercises, which involved creating watercolor monoprints by pressing paper onto wet paint on my white ceramic palette. The effects were both exciting, and not unexpectedly, surprising. After the paper was removed from the palette the images were worked on and as they changed they reminded me of the night sky on the McDowell Sonoran Reserve in Scottsdale, from our recent trip to Arizona.

One final palette piece that deserves its own space, I’m sure you’ll agree…
It’s been quite a day…
Temple of Apollo, The Asklepion, Island of Kos, Greece
Sensational Santorini
On this the eve of the referendum in Greece I thought Day 185 on thechangingpalette would be a good day to post this painting of Santorini from our memorable visit there in July 2000. We have so much to thank Greece for in our modern world that has been shaped by its philosophers, its culture and its history. For this great birthplace of democracy lets hope tomorrow leads to better days ahead.
