WPC: Life Imitates Art

Pollock iv

After Convergence 13.2.16

In this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge Sheri asks us to “…find inspiration in a piece of art. Then, imitate it.” The painting I have chosen is Convergence by Jackson Pollock painted in 1952 and now residing in the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo New York.

Convergence – Jackson Pollock – 1952

“I have no fears about making changes, destroying the image, etc. because the painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through.” Jackson Pollock.

Homage to Pollock 13.2.16

“It seems to me that the modern painter cannot express his age, the airplane, the atom bomb, the radio, in the old forms of the Renaissance or any other past culture. Each age finds its own technique.”
Jackson Pollock, 1951

  1. love how you have allowed much of the clean white paper to remain, creating a sense of Breathing room and spaciousness rather than a crowded mob of darkly packed entities. ie liking yours, more so, than Pollacks 🙂

  2. I love the Pollock quote which I can easily apply to life. The picture is superb and it is really interesting to watch the action of making the action picture. And as a little PS Nigella Lawson’s latest book has a recipe for Jackson Pollack … is it any wonder I love her so 🙂

  3. OK Andrew – have to say you have by far the most literal interpretation this week! Quite courageous to re-create a Pollock piece, and quite brilliantly I might add. But my favorite thing about your post is the video, helping the viewer to see just how it’s done. Fabulous!!

  4. That second quote is interesting. I don’t think it’s just the modern painter who “cannot express his age”. I think all of us living in this time have great difficulty expressing ourselves because we have so much to contend with from moment to moment and so much noise (literal & figurative) in our lives that sometimes it’s just easier to shut ourselves off from the world.
