Studio 365: Day 178

Nursery i

Some days are just the best, and today is one of those days. We became grandparents for the first time when our daughter gave birth to a beautiful little girl at 9:30 this morning.

On Day 144 you will remember I said I would reveal the pieces I was stretching and wiring so earnestly. This wonderful cross-stitch scene my wife made when she was pregnant with our daughter and after she was born it hung over her crib. Happily it will now be hanging in her own daughter’s nursery in pride of place.

These pieces, also for the nursery, are images from favourite books that I used to read to her and her brother for years, which I have scanned, printed onto canvas and then stretched onto the small frames. I’m already looking forward to reading them all over again.

What a great day it has been today. I hope yours has been too.

  1. Congratulations Andrew! What a proud moment for you and your family. I’m sure you will be a doting and wonderful grandfather. The art you have started your granddaughter off with will be a treasure for both her and her mother always. She is a lucky girl.

  2. Many many congratulations to you, your wife, your daughter and the new daddy and most of all a warm welcome to the world to the new baby girl. I wish you all such happiness as she starts her journey in life and I thank you for sharing this most blissful news with us all. The cross stitch is beautiful and this child will have it as part of her fabric along with all those wonderful books …. gosh I couldn’t begin to choose a favourite from those titles …. 🙂

  3. Well Andrew, what a ride you’re in for! Our only granddaughter was born 9 years ago come September and every day with her has been a joy. I love what you did with the books and hope she becomes as voracious a reader as my own little one – it’s one of the most important things we pass on to our children. I’m sure she will also inherit a bit of her grandfather’s artistic talents as well! Enjoy the ride my friend.

    1. Many thanks Tina for all of your lovely comments. I’m sure you must spoil your granddaughter every day as we intend to do with ours. We kept all of the children’ s books and I’m looking forward to re-visiting them all. Best wishes for a great week ahead 🙂
